Who is ideal for monthly motorhome hire?
Long-term motorhome rental is not usually chosen for a normal holiday. It is normally an option for those who want to travel without a rigid itinerary, work remotely from different places or simply try out this lifestyle before buying a motorhome of their own.
Unlike a short-term rental, every long-duration trip is different. Some people want to travel through several countries in Europe, spend a season in a warmer climate or combine work and travel for several months. For this reason, the rental terms are calculated on a bespoke basis depending on the length of the trip, the planned route and the approximate mileage.
If you are thinking of travelling for one, three or six months, I will explain below how long-term rental works, what aspects are worth considering before booking and which options usually fit best for this type of trip.
How does long-term motorhome rental work?
Long-term motorhome rental is organised in a fully personalised way, with no closed packages or fixed rates. The conditions are adapted to the actual plan of each trip.

This is how the process works:
1. You tell us about your trip
We define the rental duration (1, 3, 6 months or more), the countries you want to travel through and the approximate mileage. These factors directly influence the rental conditions.
We adapt the campervan and the rental format
We take into account the duration, the number of kilometres, the countries on the itinerary, the season and the type of vehicle to offer you a personalised proposal.
3. We are with you throughout the whole rental
We offer support and advice throughout your entire stay, whether you are travelling through one or several countries.
Why do people rent a motorhome for several months?
The reasons are very different and do not always have to do solely with travelling.
For example, one of my clients rented a motorhome for a month to work in Switzerland. For him, it was more practical and economical to live in the motorhome than to look for accommodation near his place of work. During that time, he used the motorhome as a complete home.
Another client, who worked as a remote programmer, decided to rent a campervan for three months after realising that he spent practically the whole day within the exact same four walls. He wanted a change of scenery without stopping work. During those months he travelled through various coastal areas and also spent spells in the mountains, combining work and travel into a single lifestyle.
We also had a couple from the Netherlands who hired a campervan for about three months to tour Spain at their leisure. They visited different regions of the country and even went on a road trip through Morocco.
In most cases, Peugeot or Citroën models are chosen for this type of trip. For a single person or a couple, they usually offer more than enough space, consume less fuel and have a lower rental cost than larger motorhomes. Many people compare renting to buying a motorhome of their own. However, buying a new motorhome involves an investment of tens of thousands of euros, in addition to insurance, maintenance and storage costs.
If you only need a motorhome for one, three or six months, renting is usually a much more sensible option. Furthermore, it allows you to try out this lifestyle before deciding if you really want to buy a motorhome of your own.
How much does it cost to hire a motorhome for several months?
It is one of the most frequently asked questions. In practice, each long-term rental is calculated individually depending on the season, the expected mileage, the countries you are going to visit and the total duration of the trip.
For example, one of our clients hired a motorhome for a month to work in Switzerland. As it was an off-peak trip and they hardly made any long journeys, the cost was approximately €40 a day.
Another customer travelled and worked remotely for three months. They hired a campervan between March and May for about €55 a day, a considerably lower rate than that of a short-term holiday rental.
We also had a couple from the Netherlands who travelled around Spain for about three months. Due to the high expected mileage, the price was calculated individually and came to approximately €60 a day.
The longer the rental, the lower the daily cost tends to be. While a short-term rental can be around €100 a day, for rentals lasting several months the daily price is usually considerably lower.
For this reason, for long journeys, remote work or full seasons on the road, long-term rental often turns out to be much more affordable than many people imagine.
